    Hi Adam, A very enjoyable video. Your Dad is a great all round gardener. I say this every year, to have a successful crop of different fruits all growing in the same greenhouse is quite an achievement. They all need separate atmospheric conditions and your Dad has overcome this hurdle with seemingly ease! I think the leaf curl on the tomatoes may be due to the compost being too dry at some stage. Probably the cucumber plant lacked enough humidity. The vegetable plots looking good as well. Considering the summer we have had, not much to grumble about!

      Hi Robert, he is a great all round gardener and certainly manages to get a lot of fruit and veg from that greenhouse. The summer has been a bit of a let down this year hasn't it and judging by todays temperature autumn is upon us and then it's the slow decent into winter. Role on spring 2025

    Superb yield! I don't know why last 2 years mine have failed. Neighbours have too. My soil PH is on the alkaline side & I make my own compost. Ended up growing my back up plants from greenhouse in pots on shelves in the garden including one in old kettle as you do. After growing from seed I am still traumatised by slugs & snails - day after day, week after week & month after month & armies of them- that constant rain nearly drove insane. Finally, I might get some courgettes at the 11th hour but they'll not be bigguns. Saw your Giant Punpkin video, again mine failed this year but 2020 I got one going ok 🤷‍♀️

      Hi, I too have tried loofah for the first time this year in a small greenhouse in Yorkshire. I think possibly they're a bit like cucumbers and melons and assisting pollination with a small brush to the flowers may help. The flowers aren't very long lasting. They have male and female flowers- the female ones have a swelling like a tiny fruit at the base so you need to get some pollen from the male to the female. From what I can gather they need lots of heat and ideally a nice long hot Summer. It's getting late in our season. I have 2 plants with 3 decent sized loofahs but they seem a bit stuck now- green but not showing any signs of ripening further. Early on the small plants were decimated by the local molluscs and I put my 2 survivors in a raised bed

    Hi Adam, Thank you for showing your Dad's garden. Good to see a traditional English garden. It makes a change from letting the lawn go to seed and garden rubbish left in heaps to attract hedgehogs. I haven't seen a hedgehog for years due to the badgers having eaten them all! Interesting to see internodal cuttings, something I've only associated with propagating clematis. I hope, at sometime, we get to see your Dad's greenhouse which is always worth a visit.

    Hi Adam, Good to see a success with the courgettes after all the other crop tribulations. When all the books say you need a rich well prepared soil to grow marrows, courgettes etc., you confound the "old boys" and do it your way! Your camera glanced by the onions which are looking quite good. As Fred Streeter used to say "the answer lies in the soil"!

    • @AllotmentGrowHow
      @AllotmentGrowHow Месяц назад

      Hi Robert, I think nature lives by its own rules. If those courgette plants just need the bare necessities to develop then that's what they're gonna do and no amount of ideas from any amount of books id going to stop them. Having said that, I do think richer soil would be a benefit when it comes to growing these plants. I guess they'll just do what they want to do. Thanks for watching and commenting as always

      Blackbird boy takes a bow, receives the applause and then exits stage left. Bloody hell those kiwis are going back some... so being a very lazy gardener here's what happened. I only read up on how to look after them after I'd completed the videos. Which is arse about face really. Turns out you need a male and a female plant to get any fruit, and it takes about 4 years to figure out which type of plant you have. Then it takes another 3 years before you get any fruit. So a seven year wait. That wasn't happening, not on my watch, so I planted them in the local woods to give them a chance. They didn't make it. I think Monty Don's job is safe, don't you? Hi, I've got one Uchi Kuri plant in green house and have two lateral runs each with 2 fruits on each. All doing well and my thoughts were to remove all the leaves so as two chanel all the feed into the fruit which appears to be doing okay. Why feed large leaves which you discard? Just my bit of logic.

    • @AllotmentGrowHow
      @AllotmentGrowHow Месяц назад

      I think cutting of diseased or yellowing leaves is considered good practice, but I think cutting off all the leaves might cause more harm than good, don't they need leaves for photosynthesis and the overall health of the plant and good fruit production. That's just my guess, but they're your plants - so it's up to you
